Please read this entire section for important information.

 

SATURDAY PACKET PICK-UP will be held from 3-5PM at Central Fire Station, One Summer St. Just look for the yellow “Triathlon” and "Packet Pickup" signs when exiting I-95 at Kennebunk. You’ll be required to show a picture ID, and if you’re a USAT cardholder, don’t forget to bring that as well. If you're unable to produce your USAT card, you'll be required to fill out a one-day license form and pay an additional $10. (This pertains to annual USAT members only).  ALL relay team members must be present to obtain their race bag and to complete a USAT waiver form, NO EXCEPTIONS. Invariably, this is a “surprise” to some folks, but if you’re reading this, as you should, it won’t be.   Look for the yellow "Triathlon" and “Packet Pickup” signs as you come into town. When you arrive, first find your name and race number on the master list of all entrants, then proceed to the registration table where we’ll ask you your number, check your ID’s, give you all your race stuff. For ALL relay teams, each member must first fill out a one-day USAT waiver form that will be on the table to the left as you approach te registration tables. IF YOU ENTERED AFTER WEDNESDAY 8/22, PLEASE COMPLETE A USAT WAIVER FORM AS WELL PRIOR TO REQUESTING YOUR RACE PACKET.

 

RACE DAY PACKET PICK-UP - If you’re unable to make it Saturday, there will be packet pickup available at the beach transition venue on Sunday from 6:15-7:30 AM. BE MINDFUL OF RACE DAY PARKING INSTRUCTIONS BELOW THOUGH AS YOU MAKE YOUR PLANS.  You’ll be required to show a picture ID, and if you’re a USAT cardholder, don’t forget to bring that as well. ALL relay team members must be present to obtain their race bag and to complete a USAT waiver form, NO EXCEPTIONS. Same requirements as above apply as respects ID's and USAT annual cardholders.

 

RACE DAY PARKING AND SHUTTLE  - If you went to Saturday's packet pick-up, you may park along Beach Ave. for this race until Noon without fear of being ticketed, the town will not be enforcing the permit rules on race day. To access the beachside parking spots....from the north via I-95 >>> follow the yellow "Triathlon" signs. At the set of lights at the intersection of Rt. 9 and Sea Road by Bennett's Store turn left. At the next set of lights (Sunoco station) turn right and you’ll come to the beach....from the south via I-95 >>>  exit at Wells, left on Rt 109, left at the light at Rt. 1, and then a right on Route 9 toward Kennebunkport. At the set of lights at the intersection of Rt. 9 and Sea Road by Bennett's Store, go straight to the next set of lights (Sunoco station) and turn right to the beach.  Drive along the beach to the next available spot. Depending on where you end up, the furthest you’ll have to walk or pedal is a mile to the start/transition area. Just keep the water on your left and you’ll find us. Your ONLY route to the beach FOR PARKING is Beach St. from the Sunoco station. By picking up your race packets on the previous day, you don't need to follow the Tri Bike Drop Off signs, you may park and move to the transition venue with all your gear.

For those picking up their race packets on Sunday - you have some choices.... first follow the instructions above to the intersection of Rt. 9 and Sea Rd. by Bennett's Store depending upon if coming from the north or south via I-95.

There will be yellow signs visible as you near the beach on race morning for “Tri Bike Drop-Off” and "Triathlon Shuttle Parking".

YOU MAY EITHER FOLLOW THE "Tri Bike Drop Off" SIGN TO FIRST DROP OFF YOUR BIKE AT THE BEACH THEN GO TO SEA ROAD SCHOOL FOR PARKING AND RIDE THE SHUTTLE BUS TO THE BEACH.  (Begins at 6AM, last bus will leave for the transition area at 7:15)...  This is a temporary BIKE ONLY drop, not all your gear, and you will be expected to move quickly to keep this process moving along, please follow the directions of the volunteers there. YOU WILL GO THROUGH PACKET PICKUP WHEN YOU RETURN TO THE BEACH LATER. 

 

OR...  FOLLOW THE "Triathlon Shuttle Parking" SIGNS FIRST TO SEA RD. SCHOOL, LEAVE YOUR CAR THERE, AND PEDAL TO THE BEACH, ABOUT 3 MILES. THERE ARE NO RESTROOM FACILITIES OPEN AT THE SCHOOL.  THOSE LOVELY FACILITIES AWAIT YOU AT THE BEACH.

 

IF YOU WILL PICKING UP YOUR RACE PACKET ON SUNDAY MORNING AND WILL NOT BE ARRIVING IN TOWN BY 6:45 AM, ONE OF THESE TWO OPTIONS IS YOUR ONLY OPTION  - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THE BEACH FOR DAY PARKING FROM THE SUNOCO STATION UNLESS YOU WENT TO SATURDAY'S PACKET PICKUP.

 

RACE PACKET - Your race bag will contain a large adhesive number for your bike, small number sticker for the helmet front, and a large race number that must be worn on front during the run, and a swim cap. If you have special or medical need and would like to be closely monitored in the water, please email me and we’ll have a hi-vis swim cap color for you. You'll also have an ankle strap with a timing chip. You must wear this at all times during the race for an official time to be recorded.

Be sure your race numbers are prominently displayed for the Capstone photographers to properly identify you.

 

TRANSITION AREA - The transition area will open at 6:30AM.  In order to rack your bike, you must have the bike number affixed. You will not be admitted into the transition area otherwise, and no one other than athletes will be permitted in this area. PLEASE SEE THAT YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS HEED THIS AS IT WILL BE STRICLTY ENFORCED AND INTERLOPERS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. PLEASE SPARE THEM THE EMBARRASMENT FROM US HAVING TO PLAY THE ENFORCER PUBLICLY. Also, make certain your handlebars have bar end plugs in place, otherwise you won’t be able to race. Peak Performance Multisport will have some extras on hand and will be able to make adjustments and provide some gear, but don’t count on them for your race prep please. The transition area will close promptly at 7:45AM.

 

BODY MARKING - Attentive volunteers will be located at the beach transition area for body marking your left quad, right calf, and right hand.

 

RELAY TEAMS - As mentioned earlier, ALL members of a relay team must be present together to pick up their race packet. Swimmer and cyclist must be body marked. During the swim, the team cyclists will be in a holding area at the transition entrance and will need to ACCEPT THEIR TEAM SWIMMER'S TIMING CHIP ANKLE STRAP to proceed into the transition area to get their bike. They’ll be required to leave their bike shoes by their bike in the transition area, as the individual racers do. The team runners will be located near the transition exit to ACCEPT THE ANKLE TIMING CHIP FROM THE TEAM CYCLIST. The team cyclist must first rack their bike and then proceed to make the chip exchange with the runner. A review of this procedure will be held prior to the start.

 

SWIM COURSE - We are still in the process of determining the number and size of swim waves.The course is 1/3 of a mile, swimming in a counter clock-wise rotation around three legs of a rectangle. If you tire and need assistance, please signal to our water safety staff. You may hold on to a boat, jet ski, or kayak to regain yourself, however if you are assisted in any way beyond this, you will be disqualified. You may proceed with the race to finish, but a result will not be officially recorded. As you exit the water, you'll have a hundred yards or so to go before you enter the transition area.

IF YOU'D LIKE OUR WATER SAFETY CREW TO KEEP AN ESPECIALLY SHARP EYE ON YOU, PLEASE REQUEST A SPECIAL NEEDS COLORED SWIM CAP AT PACKET PICKUP. 

 

AUDIO DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE WORN WHILE RACING. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO REMOVE THEM BEFORE ENTERING THE RACE COURSE.

 

PRE-RACE REFRESHMENTS - Our friends at the Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association will have hot coffee and an assortment of donuts for sale as preparations for the race spool up early on race morning. Your supporters and friends won't go hungry as they enjoy your athletic endeavor!! KBIA provides summer recreational opportunitites for area and visiting kids and has been intrumental in the development of our youth for several generations. Please be generous with your support.

 

 

POST-RACE PANCAKE BREAKFAST -  Kennebunk's American Legion Post will be serving breakfast starting around 9:15 AM.  A tear-off to the race bib number will be required for the athletes breakfast. PLEASE RETAIN YOUR RACE BIB TO BE SERVED. Body markings on the relay team members will admit them as well. If your family and friends will be joining us (must have been reserved with your registration) $6. per person will be collected by the volunteers serving breakfast. Cash or checks only. PLEASE HAVE THE CORRECT BILLS, if possible. Bring a beach chair and towel and have great time…there’s also a beachside playground for the younger kids.  Your support of our military veterans and their scholarship fund will be greatly appreciated!!

 

SHOWERS - We’ll have a shower set up with a fire hose and nozzle (what did you expect?) but you won’t be able to get naked…sorry. Port-a-Potties will also be in place there.

 

TIMING CHIP NOTICE - WE USE WINNING CHIP (WC) TECHNOLOGY.  IF YOU'VE PURCHASED A USAT CHAMPION CHIP, IT WILL NOT RECORD A RESULT AT OUR RACE. USE ONLY THE CHIPS THAT WE PROVIDE YOU.
